Sophie
Certified Practicing Speech Pathologist (CPSP)
NDIS registered
Sophie graduated in the UK in 2017 and has worked in both the United Kingdom and Australia since. Sophie moved to Australia in February 2023 to travel the East and West Coast. She began working in community practice as a Speech Pathologist in Australia in July 2023 supporting a diverse NDIS caseload across clinic, home, community and telehealth settings. Sophie is a highly motivated and compassionate Speech Pathologist with expertise in adult communication and swallowing disorders.
Sophie has extensive experience supporting people with acquired and progressive neurological conditions, including stroke, acquired brain injury, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, Huntington’s disease and dementia, as well as developmental conditions such as autism, intellectual disability and cerebral palsy in both communication and swallowing difficulties. Sophie has a passion for dysphagia management, and her dysphagia practice includes assessment, diagnosis, mealtime management planning, eating and drinking at risk recommendations, staff and carer education, and referrals for instrumental assessment where appropriate.
Before relocating to Australia, Sophie worked within the NHS in acute hospital and rehabilitation settings, including intensive care and stroke services. She supported patients with complex medical, respiratory and neurological presentations, including tracheostomy management, and worked throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. This experience strengthened her clinical reasoning, adaptability and ability to work effectively within high-pressure multidisciplinary teams.
Alongside her clinical work, Sophie has previous experience as a Team Lead, providing clinical mentoring, supervision and professional support to other Speech Pathologists. Sophie is passionate about reflective practice, education and fostering a collaborative, respectful and supportive team culture. Sophie has developed and delivered dysphagia education for clinicians, support workers and carers, as well as supporting students and early-career professionals.
Sophie takes a person-centred and evidence-based approach to therapy, working collaboratively with clients, families, carers and other professionals to establish meaningful functional goals. She is known for her approachable nature, strong rapport-building skills and commitment to helping clients participate more confidently and safely in everyday life.
Outside of work Sophie is keen on CrossFit, enjoys getting outdoors, travel, attempting to surf and spending time with friends
